1/13/2024 0 Comments Gameboy macro shell 3d print![]() ![]() The problem I now had was the GBA port was sitting on top of the ds PCB and also on top of the flex PCB. I added some double sided tape to the bottom of the GBA Port to stick it down to the flex PCB. With the new design of the PCB I added through hole pads that I could just solder down to the GBA port on the ds PCB which made for less overall height. The problem with adding the crystal to the PCB was that one of the crystal’s pads would be under the new location of the GBA port so I had to get creative and squeeze the pads in amongst everything else. I had thought up a few improvements to the PCB and also wondered if I could add away to add the crystal to the PCB to make it easier to build, I had just soldered some enamel wire from the crystal’s pads onto the board but that was messy. I soldered the PCB and got it working so at least now I knew it would work. At first I tried to solder some IDA hard drive ribbon cable to see what it would be like but I couldn’t get it to boot, I quickly designed a flex PCB that was really basic, I wanted away to test the idea out and see if it would work. Ive modelled a 3d printable bottom shell so I could just modify that to suit, Also since my bottom shell doesn’t have a battery door a hard wired battery really isn’t a problem.Īs I already said the DS slot and GBA slot would need to be removed but I also found out that the crystal would also need to be removed. I could just remove it and hard wire a battery in place, This brings me round to another problem, Since the card will be going all the way into the shell it would need trimming. There was another problem, The battery connector was also in the way. Then I measured 14mm back from the GBA port to see where the new one would have to sit, The ds card slot would have to go which isn’t really a problem since most people just use their gameboy marco’s for GBA games. Join me below to see if I was able to pull it off.įirst thing I did was measure how far the GBA cart stuck out of the DS Lite, It was 14mm. I started to look at one of my broken boards to see what if it was even possible and what would it take to pull off. So someone asked would it be possible to have a Gameboy macro with flush GBA port, I love it when people ask these crazy questions. ![]()
